The KITE GAME
Sumi and Watercolor
13" x 38 1/2" inside, 17 1/2" x 60" outside.
This exceptional, colorful, traditional work is done in sumi and watercolor. The theme is one of joy and good wishes as the Kaisho style calligraphy on the kites state (from top to bottom) Happiness, Harvest (wishes for a good one), Medal (the hope to achieve something worthy of a distinction). The writing and seal on the lower left is Master Artist Green Jade's name.
The scroll is a Japanese scroll, made of olive green paper stamped with a traditional dragon pattern in celadon. At the top and bottom of the paper inset is a band of white paper stamped with a gold damask pattern. At the top is a brown ribbon suitable for traditional tying and at the bottom is a sturdy, highly polished dark wood dowel.
